Altrincham Preparatory School has lifted the Greater Manchester under-11 seven-a-side football championships to complete a borough and city double.

Having already won the Trafford tournament, the free scoring APS squad now go to the North-West finals at St. Bede’s College in Blackburn on March 1 as the pride of Manchester and one of the favourites to qualify for the prestigious English Schools’ Football Association's national event.

Captained by defensive lynchpin Ben Bodha, APS beat a skilful St. Michael’s side from Flixton 2 - 0 in the away leg and 5 - 1 at their Marlborough Road home in Bowdon.

Clinical finisher Will Abbotts scored four goals from central midfield in the two matches, with other goals from Daniel Hassanpour, Andrew Maher and Ben Bodha.

APS Director of Physical Education Nigel Birch said: “It is the first time APS has been to the North-West finals since 2002 and we are expecting a stiff test against a very high standard of opposition. It’s going to be great fun for everyone involved. ”
