APS Golf Championship

APS News

Talented 10-year-old golfer Nathan Schmidtke won the inaugural Altrincham Preparatory School Golf Championship with a stunning nine holes at the immaculate Ringway Golf Club.

Over the last three years, APS boys have taken advantage of Ringway’s junior teaching programme taking lessons in both technique and etiquette from the club’s team of professionals.

But this was the first year APS ran a school tournament with 22 Year Five and Six pupils marching the fairways. Nathan won the event with a score of 42 for nine holes, just seven over par with an astonishing points tally of 46. In equal second place were William Abbotts (11) and Scott Craig (9) both with 32 points. Nathan, who is a member of Styal Golf Club, said the secret was, “to keep cool, calm and collected particularly on the greens. ”

The event was organised by APS Year Six teacher David Aden, who is a member of Ringway Golf Club, who said: “Golf is all about fair play and we believe that instilling the etiquette of this wonderful game is a great educational lesson for our boys. ”

Mr Aden added: “ APS boys have many opportunities to catch the sporting bug and we hope that they all enjoy their chosen activities now and in the future. APS will be sending a team to the Stonyhurst Schools’ tournament later in the Summer for one of the nation’s top schools’ golf tournaments.
