Harvest at APS
Former Altrincham Preparatory School schoolboy Hamish Brown returned to his old school to collect sports kit and equipment for the children he is going to teach in Zambia.
In January the 19-year-old Altrincham adventurer will fly out to Livingstone in the shadow of Victoria Falls to teach for three months at the Queen Victoria Primary School.
Hamish said: "Livingstone is the AIDS capital of the world and I will be teaching many orphaned children. It is a greatly impoverished country and anything I can offer the young boys and girls will be valued and cherished." Travelling in the footsteps of Nineteenth Century Scottish explorer and missionary David Livingstone, Hamish has no idea what to expect.
"I know it's very poor, but I know I will get a warm welcome and I expect the children to be very enthusiastic especially if I can bring a few Manchester United shirts." Hamish, who last summer gained three A grades in his A Levels at The Manchester Grammar School, added: "Who knows, if I take out a few APS shirts, there school team might even get a few new supporters." After his teaching stint Hamish, an MGS First XV rugby player, is aiming to travel down to South Africa through Namibia and Botswana, ending his six month trip by watching the British Lions play the Springboks. On his return Hamish will then go up to Newcastle University to study Modern History. If you have any old sports kits please contact APS on 0161 928 3366.
