In October 2012 APS bought the Bank Place building at 48 Stamford Road backing onto Highbury. We knew from surveys that it was in a poor state of repair but it was only when the plaster came off that we discovered the true condition of the property. Since building work started back in May 2013, we have rebuilt most of the building and redesigned the interior.
At the time of purchase Bank Place comprised 26 small rooms over four floors. Many of these have been merged to form large and airy classrooms.
In the Lower Ground Floor we have widened the very narrow passageway into a full width bright corridor, and we have excavated large areas to form an impressive new dining room, and also a substantial kitchen area.
On the Ground Floor we have a Pre School Classroom running the full width of the building with lovely views out of the bay windows. On the First Floor the new Reception classrooms are massive, with high ceilings and flooded with natural light. We have also created a Conference Suite where we will host education training courses and seminars. The top floor is dedicated to a Sensory Area, Technology Zone and Quiet Room.
It is almost finished, and we're delighted to be able to show you inside on Open Day. Please come and see for yourselves why we are so excited about the tremendous building Bank Place has become.
As we've been working, the progress and the scale of the works have been documented with photographs. We've included some images below taken before, during and after as a reminder of the building as it was, and the journey it's taken over the last year.
