Four weeks ago 44 very small and very hungry, black, spiky caterpillars arrived in the Year 2 classrooms. Firstly we watched in amazement as they grew and grew very rapidly. After a fortnight they started to pupate, and then we waited patiently for the chrysalises to change again. Our patience was rewarded as the first of our Painted Lady butterflies started emerging last week. Today we released them into the wild at Bell Field. As you can see from the photos many of the butterflies were a little reluctant to leave the boys, but eventually they all fluttered off to continue their life cycles.
