When we started our History topic on the Titanic in Year 2 this term, little did we know that one APS family had an extraordinary link with the mighty ship. Today we were visited by Tom's grandfather who flew over from Belfast especially to share with us some of his stories and his extensive knowledge of the Titanic. As the boys can tell you, the Titanic was built in Belfast and Mr Ronald Foreman acted as Belfast Harbour Commissioner during the centenary year of the ill-fated ship's maiden voyage to New York. Not only that, Tom's great great grandfather, Thomas Phillips, was a French polisher who was involved in the finishing of the Grand Staircase that graced the First Class section of the RMS Titanic. Do not be surprised if your son suggests that you spend your next holiday in Belfast. Mr Foreman inspired us all with his fascinating facts and invited all the boys to visit the Titanic Museum in Belfast. A big thank you to Mr Foreman from all the boys and teachers in Year 2 for a captivating afternoon.
