Today we welcomed Mr Bates from 'Sci-High' to investigate a crime scene in our hall. In the scenario, our school had been burgled and new caretaker 'Lenny' had been assaulted. It was up to Year 5 to gather all the forensic evidence and hold a mock trial to pass judgement on the accused.
The boys swabbed for 'blood', used UV light to discover traces of human activity, compared shoe prints, examined 'blood'-stained clothes and analysed a variety of different handwriting styles, DNA profiles and fingerprints.
Once the evidence was gathered, our mock trial heard from the barristers representing each party and our jury made their decision based on the forensic evidence presented to them.
A fantastic morning where the boys learnt a great deal about the world of forensic science and the role that science plays in the justice system.
