Fastest man on earth delights Altrincham Preparatory School boys at Speech Night

title

The fastest man on earth told Altrincham Preparatory School boys to "follow your dreams to the best of your ability" on Wednesday as Wing Commander Andy Green OBE - holder of the World Land Speed Record - addressed an emotional Speech Night to celebrate another hugely successful academic year.

Before presenting prizes, Wing Commander Green enthralled the audience with tales of driving a 763mph supersonic car, before revealing the exciting plans for the new Bloodhound car, which he will attempt to drive at over 1000mph.

The school also bade farewell to long-serving Head Master Andrew Potts, who will retire this month to be replaced by Andrew Whittaker. Chairman of the Board of Governors and Directors Andrew Hill thanked Mr Potts for his care, compassion and drive over the past 18 years.

"Mr Potts has skilfully guided Altrincham Preparatory School to become the centre of excellence that it is today and we've all benefited from his service," he said. "We are deeply grateful, and the biggest tribute to him is the hundreds of talented, caring APS boys who have passed through the school."

Altrincham Preparatory School has once again performed excellently both in the classroom and on the sports field, and after noting some of the most outstanding achievements - including becoming ISFA Football Champions for the first time - Mr Potts celebrated the fact that all of Year 6 have represented the School in some way, a culture of participation he put down to the commitment and enthusiasm of his colleagues.

"APS is fortunate to have such outstanding teachers and support staff, and they are central to the school's success," he said. "They take a genuine pleasure in the boys' achievements - you could not ask for better. It has been a privilege to work alongside them."
