SPORTS’ DAY
The Infant Sports Day took place on Wednesday 27
th
June in beautiful
sunshine at Marlborough Road. All the boys began the event by
marching behind a banner depicting their house team colour during
an “Olympic theme” opening ceremony. This was followed with a
rousing rendition of Mr Pearson’s Olympic song. Every boy who par-
ticipated gave their all to win points for their team, with Alexander
(Yellows) winning the trophy. Well done to all the boys who took part.
On Wednesday 11
th
and Thursday 12
th
July, all the boys at Marlbor-
ough Road took part in a revised APS Olympic Games. The Year 3/4
competition took place indoors at Altrincham Grammar School for
Boys, whilst the Year 5/6 competition took place on field at Marlbor-
ough field. The original outdoor event had to be postponed twice due
to the great British Summer and the format for the games had altered
slightly from previous sports days. All boys took part in seven sepa-
rate events, including skipping, standing jumps, chest throw, bunny
hops, long distance races, obstacle races and finally the traditional
house team relay. Each event involved every boy scoring points for
their particular house team with a grand total being calculated.
The Year 3/4 Games was won by Montgomery (reds) and the Year
5/6 Games was also won by Montgomery (reds). Archie was awarded
the 800m trophy, Oscar the 200m trophy and the high jump trophy,
while Ben A and Ben L jointly won the Year 5 Long Jump competition
with jumps of 3m40. On the morning prior to the Year 5/6 Sports day,
Alex won the APS Tennis tournament, with a hard fought victory over
Arun in the final and Archie won the APS superstars competition and
collected his trophy off Harry Kewell.
Below are some accounts of the fun and enjoyment the boys had
during the Year 3/4 Olympics:

love jumping”
Chems – “I love the skipping and I managed 37 skips”

Noah- “Amazing”
Sulaiman – “I think today’s sports day was really fun”

All boys received an enamel badge which can be worn on their blazers
commemorating the APS Games 2012 donated by the APS Society.

competition. (Y3/4 Winners below left)
