A Rousing Musical End to the School Year
This school year has finished with all years per-
forming some outstanding concerts.
The Marlborough Road summer concert had a very pa-
triotic feel to it. The new Olympic song was performed
by all the boys accompanied by the brass group. The
boys sang with great pride and gave a moving perform-
ance. To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the
orchestra performed “Pomp and Circumstance” and
“Rule Britannia” – together with rousing flag waving and
singing! Our own “Last night of the Proms.”
Then it was Highbury’s turn to perform their
Olympic song - “The Olympics are coming to Lon-
don”, which mentioned many sports we hope to
see this summer, and a song they clearly enjoyed
singing. They then sang the Jubilee song “Sing”,
accompanied by their brothers in Year 4, and what
a moving performance that was. Some wonderful
solo and group singing, which required an encore.
A real highlight of the year.
But the best was yet to come, with the Year 6 production
of “Treasure Island”. Parents had great difficulty recog-
nising their sons as they grew beards and grotesque
scars. The pirates were blood thirsty, the heroes heroic,
the storm scene tempestuous, the gun battle noisy with
some fine acting and singing by all the cast. Many boys
had two roles and there were many outstanding perform-
ances, but what stood out most was the team work of
the whole cast. Every boy gave 100%, and performed to
a high standard in their role.
Mr Pearson writes
“I am immensely proud of all
the boys work this year. They have reached stan-
dards well above my expectations. Treasure Is-
land was a production to remember, and would
not be out of place in a national theatre. Even the
younger boys’ singing moved their parents to
tears! Well done boys. Your performances will be
remembered for many years.”
