Some of the Year 6 boys were set a task by Mr Potts to
investigate the full scale size of dinosaurs, using miniature
plastic models, measuring cylinders and water. They had
to submerge the models in the water and calculate the
water displacement in a bid to work out the actual size of
a variety of different dinosaur models.
The Year 6 boys also became science teachers for the
morning, when they assisted the nursery boys with a na-
ture walk. They had to pair up with a nursery boy and
explore different habitats and organisms, asking engaging
questions and identifying different plants and animals. As
a pair, they collected leaves from a variety of trees and
also drew some of the creatures that they had spotted. It
was activity that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and
made the Year 6 boys appreciate the challenges faced
and satisfaction felt when you are a teacher!
Mrs Woodage challenged boys at Marlborough Road to
design and build clay or wooden model vehicles during
their design and technology/art lessons. They drew a de-
sign and modelled the clay accordingly taking into ac-
count a good streamlined shape, some added wheels us-
ing axels before painting and testing the models. Mrs
Hammond focused her French lessons at Highbury around
different types of transport, playing mini games, reading
stories using the interactive whiteboard and extending the
boys vocabulary, introducing phrases for rockets, boats
and cars. Mr Pearson also used his music lessons to rein-
force how sounds are made and how they travel.
