FRENCH
It has become somewhat of a tradition at APS for us to work together with Year 12 French pupils and the
languages college staff at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys to celebrate European Day of Languages.
Here are boys in
Year 3
listening to stories in French. Once again this year we were pleased to welcome
some of our old boys back to school.
European Day of Languages
26
September 2012
Ten years ago the Council of Europe declared a European Day of Languages to be
celebrated on 26 September each year.
There are over 6000 languages spoken in the world and behind each and every one of
them lies a rich and diverse culture. That’s what the European Day of Languages (EDL)
aims to celebrate - by showing people across Europe how important languages are and
what fun can be had learning them.
Watch this space for results of
the “Why learn languages?”
poster competition run by staff
at AGSB for our Year 6 boys!
There were some fantastic ideas
and clever designs. Well done,
boys.
Boys across our own Pre-School, Infant and Junior Schools have a diverse language culture. Results of a
survey of languages other than English spoken by our boys at home make fascinating reading. We have
speakers of Urdu, Punjabi, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Indori, Guajarati, Marathi, Arabic,
Persian, Malay, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Greek,
Czech, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Welsh and Afrikaans. Please let Mrs Hammond know if there is a
language that has been omitted from this list!
