MUSIC
APS Music goes from strength to strength
We started this school year, with wonderful singing
at the Harvest Assembly, some excellent percussion
group performances, and more boys than ever having
instrumental music lessons.
The new school year always begins with a mass of musical
activity as boys begin new instruments. But this year the
numbers have been quite staggering. Our instrumental
teachers seem very popular, and are working very full time-
tables! Our singing teacher, Miss Goss, has now begun
teaching at Highbury as well as Marlborough Road, and
many boys have started lessons. She has had to increase
her number of days she visits the school!
Year 5 and Year 6 percussion groups gave an excel-
lent first performance in an assembly in October. Af-
ter just 4 rehearsals, they demonstrated their new
ensemble skills with polished performances of
Yellow Bird” and “Next to me”. They all listened to
each other and this is very encouraging for the future.
Well done boys!
The annual Harvest Assembly took place in October with
such contrasts of singing by the whole school. The first per-
formance was given of a new song by Mr Pearson - “Make
the world a better place”, with flowing solo singing, gentle
instrumental accompaniment and meaningful whole school
singing. The assembly was filled with interesting music and
spoken words, which brought across the real meaning of
Harvest. The final rousing rendition of “Gonna rise up sing-
ing” made everybody feel positive and to go and make a dif-
ference this Harvest. Please watch the boys singing on the
school website.
