YEAR 3
Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed the Jubilee day and took part
in the celebrations with gusto. Their crowns were
fantastic and they wore red white and blue with pride.
As well as Her Majesty the Queen, year 3 were joined by
King Richard I and St George!
Science has continued to be popular in year 3 and Science Week pro-
vided the opportunity to do extra study. We learned which were the
best shapes for building using marshmallows, cocktail sticks and spa-
ghetti. The aim was to make the tallest tower but it was tricky!
For our main science study this summer
we looked at how to help plants grow
hea l thi l y. We set up severa l
investigations such as observing how
broad beans grow with different
amounts of water, how grass changes
when covered from the sunlight, and
how cress grows towards the light. We
made ‘cress heads’ using egg shells.
We visited Bents Garden Centre for Ready Steady Dig. Here we learned
the correct way to plant a young viola. We also learned about the uses
of plants and had to guess what type of herbs there were by smelling
and touching the leaves. We also visited the nurseries to look at how
the young plants are nurtured, and we saw vegetables being grown in
the greenhouses.
