YEAR 4
Rule Britannia
As part of our work during Science
Week the Year 4 boys were given
the challenge of making their own
paddleboats and seeing whether
they would not only float but also
move through the water. We then
sent them away to improve on their
designs by changing different
aspects of their boat (which they
did, with some very original results).
We tested their new designs to see
which ideas seemed to make the
most difference. Overall the results
were more Royal Yacht than Titanic!
Grave Yard Shift
To link in with our work in History
and RE the Year 4 boys were given
the opportunity to explore the St.
Luke’s graveyard. We looked at
some of the interesting graves in
there (including some war graves)
and then the boys collected some
data from some of the gravestones
themselves. The boys found that
some of the older graves were very
difficult to read due to how worn
they were and how the script used
and the vocabulary employed in the
past were very different from to-
day. We found that some of the
graves dated back to the
17
th
Century!
Religion in the Community
As well as visiting the local church during
this half term, Year 4 has had the
opportunity to visit other places of worship
for the practitioners of other religions in
the area. Both the mosque in Altrincham
and the synagogue in Bowdon were very
welcoming and gave the boys the chance
to learn firsthand about the differences and
similarities in worship between the two
religions. Special thanks must go to
Mrs. Anis (Sulaiman’s mum) who stood up
in front of the whole year group and gave
a fascinating talk about Islam (career
change in the offing, perhaps?).
