Nursery Boys Start Yoga Young - Oct 2011

APS NewsThe ancient art of yoga is being taught to the youngest children at Altrincham Prepartory School.

Timperley yoga coach Sandra Stenhouse is taking the four and five year-olds in APS’s reception class through the fundamental principles of the exercise.

Yoga coach Sandra Stenhouse said: “Yoga is a wonderful exercise promoting flexibility, strength and concentration. Working in a group, it also promotes cooperation and team-work. The younger the children start, the sooner they will master the fundamental principles.”

Sandra added: “For me it has also been a wonderful way of relieving stress and becoming calmer and more focused, and these are very positive qualities to attain at any age.”

Sarah Makepeace-Taylor, APS's Early Years Coordinator, said: “For centuries yoga has helped to promote a healthy mind and a healthy body. Our boys love their sessions, above and beyond anything else, yoga is great fun.”
