Music
As the academic year draws to a close, I find myself evermore impressed by the commitment, endurance and integrity
shown by the boys of APS. We have been busy preparing for the number of performances that occupy the final weeks
of the Summer term and the boys have done wonderfully.
We were treated to some terrific solo works at the Art Exhibition so thanks must be given to Adham, Siddarth, Rory,
Sam and James; your polished renditions complimented the amazing art work and certainly lived up to the exacting
standards of Mrs Woodage. We also had all of Marlborough Road performing together at the music morning. The or-
chestra played “A Foggy Dew” and a superb arrangement of Star Wars by Miss Sheldon. This was followed by the Senior
Choir and then all the boys singing together with some very complicated music which will shortly be available to view on
the school website.
It should be noted that amongst all of the rehearsals, the boys were also filmed on three separate occasions; this re-
quires real concentration as there is a need to replicate the results for every take. They, of course, did a great job with
the only fluffs coming from me......hopefully the camera was not pointing in my direction at the time!
The EYFS and Key Stage 1 worked very hard in preparation for their Speech afternoons, singing some very challenging
repertoire including pieces in rounds and canons; an impressive achievement for four year olds.
This year a number of boys took ABRSM Examinations on a variety of instruments. The results are superb, with the boys
achieving 8 Distinctions, 24 Merits and 16 Passes.
Finally, I must express my enormous pride in our year 6 boys who pulled off their production, Revolting Children, with
great flare. I will resist all of the obvious puns that the title suggest as they genuinely worked brilliantly together and
produced something that, even after the weeks of rehearsal, still sounded fresh.
Wishing you all a restful and fun filled summer break.
