Music and Activities

Music and Drama are key elements in the APS curriculum and school life.

APS MusicFrom the earliest age singing is a joyful part of each day. Recorder work is introduced in year one. The boys advance to more specialised work as they progress through the school.

There are two school choirs and an orchestra, which perform at the end of year and end of term concerts, at local music festivals and for a wide range of charitable events.

Peripatetic teachers provide specialist tuition in string, woodwind and brass instruments, with our own staff working with pupils on choral and recorder work.

The school has excellent facilities for drama in the form of a fine stage and superb sound and lighting systems; these are located in the Junior School building on Marlborough Road.

APS DramaIn both music and drama the school policy is to develop self-confidence by performing in front of a live audience.

The boys are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

At lunchtimes and after school there are clubs for chess, computing, reading and many sports, including table tennis, short tennis and gymnastics.

During the holidays we provide a specialist two-day sports coach coaching programme and there is also a weekend away trip to a multi-activity centre for Year 6.
