APS Society

The APS Society is an organisation set up by and run by parents of the pupils for fund raising, social events and communication and support.

The Society's year begins with the new parents' evening. An environment where new parents can meet each other over a glass of wine and informally chat with their sons' teachers and those of other years and disciplines. It is here that hopefully they will be encouraged to offer their talents for future events!

The next events we support are the Marlborough Road and Highbury parents' evenings followed in December by the Christmas Fair. This is an event that raises many thousands of pounds and involves everyone from parents buying raffle tickets to house captains running their own stalls.

The Spring Term sees a social event: in the last three years we hosted The Three British Tenors Concert (1998), a Tutored Wine Tasting, and a Ladies Evening this year. All events are well supported and any profits added to the funds.

Sports Day is next. We do not run races but an invaluable refreshment service for the Mums and Dads sitting in the hot sun! The Society also provides the brochure, listing events and successes.

The year almost over and our last event is the Family Fun Day. Weather permitting, a splendid time to sit and listen to the band, enjoy a wonderful barbecue or see the varied attractions. 1999 (although very wet) saw a superb falconry display and 2000 a new event with electric go-carts. The year over and the fund raising complete.

So what happens to the money? Over the years we have successfully provided a diverse range of extras for

None of this is possible without support from friends and parents, staff and boys. If you feel you can help in any way, running a stall, making tea, providing a useful contact or have a fresh idea for an event please feel free to come to a meeting, in itself a social event, or contact a committee member. Details are available from the school on 0161-928 3366.
