As the tournament started, at the hockey renowned Repton School, our nerves were diminished by a promising start with a 2-0 win over Terra Nova. Next up was Stamford (Mr Birch’s old school) and 2012 tournament winners. One goal was sufficient to clinch it. Our confidence was growing and continued with a further win over Great Houghton. Mr Lingley’s hoarse voice was definitely starting to be the worse for wear but hung on, as did the team, for a rather lucky 0-0 draw against Bilton Grange. We’d definitely been challenged and were ready for lunch before our last group game. We needed at least a draw to qualify for the semi-finals. We were on fire and came through victorious. We continued to up our game and secured our place in the final against Repton, who showed what a well-practiced and talented side they are. We fought the good fight but lost 2-0 to worthy winners. Tired but elated our performance had qualified us to participate in the National Finals. We look forward to our visit to Wellington College for the second year running. Let’s hope Mr Lingley’s voice is up to full strength!
