Year 3 Egyptian Day

The school hall at Marlborough Road was transported to Ancient Egypt on Wednesday as Year 3 were treated to a pyramid building day.  They were instructed in activities which the Ancient Egyptians would have been engaged in 3000 years ago.  These inlcuded transporting two tonne blocks using ropes and sledges, carving hieroglyphics in stone, making papyrus, mummifying a body and of course, building a pyramid to scale.  The boys learned lots whilst having fun and working cooperatively.  The finished result was a 4 metre high pyramid, complete with a secret passageway which allowed the boys entry.  One boy was briefly 'entombed'!  We also have papyrus to write and paint on, and blocks spelling out our school name in hieroglyphics.  We have memories to take away and a great base of knowledge before we begin our history topic after Easter.  A big thank you to Charlie and well done to all boys for working hard.
