MUSIC
Another fantastic year for Music
The Marlborough Road Summer concerts saw many outstanding moments. The Brass Group and
Percussion Group gave a rousing performance of “Pirates of the Caribbean”, while the Guitar Group
rocked us with the rhythmical “Locked out of heaven”. We hear the first performance by the newly
formed Chamber Choir performing in 3 parts. Keeping with up-to-date music, all Years 3, 4 + 5
movingly sang the Eurovision song “What if we all opened our arms”, while the String Group
expressively played Einaudi’s “Experience”. The orchestra entertained everyone with “The Great
Escape” and “Morning”, but it was the performance of “Is this the way to Amarillo”, together with
actions from Year 4, which ended a very memorable concert.
The Infants sang beautifully in their Speech Afternoons with songs from “The Prehistoric Animal
Brigade” to “I’ll like to teach the world to sing”. All boys have been working on percussion pieces
and learning about orchestral instruments.
ABRSM music exams again had great results, with some boys taking 2 exams. Congratulations to all!
The Year 6 production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was another highlight. A production’s
success relies on teamwork, and every boy gave 100%. Many different accents were used which
were highly entertaining. There was some excellent singing and many stand-out acting perform-
ances. Well done Year 6!
Mr Pearson writes “The boys always surprise me with the high standards they achieve! APS is a
school I feel proud to of been part of. I would like to thank all the staff for their unending support
over the years, especially the instrumental teachers who add so much to our musical success. I will
miss you all. But I leave with so many happy memories. Your performances, boys, will be
remembered for many years.”
