The boys were lucky enough to be
invited to the boys’ grammar
school for an afternoon of science
experiments. Dr Squire set up
some fantastic tests for them to
carry out. They used acids,
alkaline and erupting bottles of
cola.
(Above) Dr Squire shows how acid mixed with an alkaline
creates a foam full of carbon dioxide which suffocates a lit
candle. (Below left) Arvi makes a cola fountain with the help of

We all went to Jodrell Bank Observatory for the day. It was fantastic, the boys
took on the Mars Rover Challenge, trying to create a safe landing mechanism
for their Mars Rover (an egg). Three teams were successful. The rest were
scrambled! They also went into the planetarium where they travelled through
space and time. The whole day was fabulous!
