Ship ahoy!
As part of our Science week work the Year 4
boys got to design and make their own
model paddleboat.
Using a recycled juice container and a few
rudimentary additional parts most of us
successfully built a craft that managed to not
only stay afloat but also to propel itself
across a stretch of water.
The boys came up with some interesting and
innovative ideas during the planning stage
and worked hard at improving their designs
in order to make their vessel as effective as
possible.
Poetry
As part of our English studies this Summer term we
have looked at poetry from different places around the
world.
The boys (as you would guess) thoroughly enjoyed the
insult poem ’You’ from the Igbo people of West Africa
(Nigeria) and subsequently came up with some
thoroughly insulting poems of their own! They also
came up with some egotistical ‘Me’ poems,
stressing how wonderful they were.
We also looked at a poem entitled ‘A Mexican Prayer’
which had a very different tone and produced work
which displayed just how far the boys have come in
their understanding of texts and their ability to use
language in formulating their ideas.
