177 boys
(tha
t’s everyone at Marlborough Road!) represented the
school at one or more of five different sports as A.P.S. fielded
forty teams at those sports from Year 3-6. This was definitely an-
other fun packed, inclusive and excellent term!
As well as the school fixtures for football, rugby, hockey, swim-
ming and cross country, boys were involved in the extra-curricular
activities that included Year 6 table tennis, Year 5 golf, Year 4
rugby and the Year 3 gymnastics
club. As usual, all of our boys were
given lots of opportunities to be
active and enjoy themselves.
Every year group had at least three or
four chances to play together at foot-
ball and we definitely won more
matches than we drew and were seldom beaten. The under 11’s
were 3
rd
at the Manchester City N.W. Schools tournament and plate
winners at the Kings Macclesfield competition. The under 10’s having
come 3
rd
at their first tournament went on to become champions at
the Foremarke Hall (Midlands Prep Schools) 6 a side Tournament,
ahead of the likes of Nottingham High and R.G.S. Worcester.
A
ll boys were offered the chance to represent the school at Cross-Country and those who did ran really
well. At the IAPS Fun Run, A.P.S. Year 4 and 5 runners were much stronger than the other schools. At
the Altrincham Schools Cross Country League meetings we were runners up twice and winners in the
final race day. Over 50 different boys from Year 3-6 represented the school over the three meetings.
A phenomenal turnout! At the North West championships, we finished an excellent 3
rd
to Kirkham
Grammar School and Austin Friars.
The term ended with a thrilling Year 4 Swimming Gala, with plenty of close races, culminating in a
victory for the Tedder house team and sixty four boys participating in the Year 3/4 Football festival,
demonstrating great team work and sportsmanship.
It is always good to know that the skills and
enthusiasm for sport that ex A.P.S. boys acquire help
them in later life and this season has seen Matthew
Lund called up to the Northern Ireland football squad
for a recent Euro Qualifier and Cameron Neild and
James Flynn both playing for Sale Sharks in the
Champions Cup at Rugby.
Mr Birch and Mr Lingley would like to take this opportunity to
thank boys and parents for their kind Christmas gifts and we wish
you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and successful sporting
New Year.
