La Presse Scolaire Dec 2014 - page 16

Autumn 2014 has been an eventful term in year 3. We began
our science topic with a study of healthy eating and looking after
our teeth. We were lucky enough to have visits by two of our
parents who came in to school in their professional capacity.
Firstly, Mrs Butt came in to talk about nutrition and helped the
boys to know the importance of a balanced diet. Then Mr
Piekara visited us with an impressive slide show on teeth and
how to look after them. The boys used disclosing tablets to ob-
serve the plaque on their teeth. They were each given a ‘goody
bag’ with samples including toothpaste and a timer to help them
brush their teeth properly.
Nathaniel and Anay decide whether
these bottles contain fats or sugars.
They also know these are the food
group we need the least amount of.
Before
After
We have learned about the Romans in our History lessons and
visited Chester to gain first-hand evidence about life nearly 2000
years ago. We also combined a weekly music lesson with Mr
Vowles to further our knowledge about how the Romans lived and
what they did for Britain.
Year 3 then presented their findings in an assembly attended by
parents, staff and Governors. This cross-curricular working has
brought the past to life and stimulated the boys to be creative and
independent in their learning.
Tom,Jack,Isaac and Harivardan learn
about spices the Romans used in
cooking.
Max and Ammar build mosaics to
decorate the floor of a roman bath
House.

All boys in year 3 have had opportunity
to enjoy gym club and to represent
school in sports matches. The whole
year group including Mrs Jones and Mrs
Rogerson went to Stockport Grammar to
take part in a football match. We en-
joyed mixed results but fine sunny
weather and all matches were played in
a sporting manner.
Fun in the Autumn sunshine.
