Through the keyhole
One of our English topics this term has been
writing a story set in a magical or fantastical land.
In order to get to them, however, the boys had
to have their characters pass through a doorway.
The boys wrote descriptions of their doorways
and incorporated these into their stories.
The ideas that the boys came up with were
impressive indeed and there was some excellent
creative writing involved. There was also a great
deal of effort put in to creating images of the
doorways (which the boys did for homework). So
good, in fact, that some were put on display in
the entrance hall for all to see
Hindu Artefacts
Having introduced the boys to aspects of the
Hindu religion we gave them the opportunity to
handle items used during worship of the Hindu
gods.
In their groups the boys were asked to try to
come up with reasonable ideas for what each
item may have been used for and why it was
important to Hindus.
Divali Lamps
As part of our RE work on Hinduism the boys
were given the opportunity to make their own
Divali lamps in school.
We had studied the story of Rama and Sita and
its relevance to the Festival of lights and the boys
had retold the story themselves in the form of a
cartoon strip.
The designs on the lamps were the boys’ own,
but were based on traditional Hindu patterns.
