Year 4
Hall Aboard!
In October we travelled to Ordsall Hall in Salford
to find out what it might have been like to live in
a Tudor mansion (as master or servant!).
The boys met up with real characters from 500
years ago and learned about how they viewed
the world they lived in.
Whether preparing a Tudor feast or readying
themselves to go to war as knights or squires,
the boys embraced the opportunity to embed
themselves in Tudor life. The breadth of
knowledge they were introduced to was
enormous and the boys felt that the trip was
‘great’ and that it added enormously to our work
in class.
Perfect Symmetry
As part of work in Maths this term the Year 4 boys
have looked at symmetry and mirror images.
Having studied its affect on shapes and patterns
we completed a practical exercise by reflecting a
portion of a complex geometric pattern across 2
mirror lines.
The pattern was based on designs used by North
American Plains Indians on their tepees.
Boys of 4S finding out about how the Tudors were
able to keep their food fresh throughout the year.
4S boys discovering how the Tudors flavoured
their food with a variety of herbs and spices
4W boys digging in to a Tudor feast. We found
out how different the diets of rich and poor
were in Tudor times.
Weaver Hall
Our English work this term has included the
study of legend and folk lore. As part of this
we were fortunate enough to be able to
organise a trip to Weaver Hall Museum in
Northwich where we were entertained by 2
professional storytellers who enthralled the
boys with both local stories and tales from far
and wide.
