The highlight of the first half of term was from the
School hockey team who travelled to Repton School
in the Midlands to participate in the North/Midlands
area IAPS Regional Hockey Finals. The boys beat
Terra Nova, Stamford, Great Houghton School and
Trent College in the group stage before beating St.
Olaves York in the semi-final to make the National
Finals at Wellington College for the second year
running. The boys lost in the final to the hosts
Repton, who would actually go on to win the
National finals, so to be narrowly beaten in the final
was a superb achievement.
Having made it to Wellington College again, we
were one of the best 20 schools in the country and
played some fantastic hockey, making our way
through the group stages and into the bowl final.
We were eventually runners up after extra time and
penalties against Bristol Grammar School. It was another amazing experience for the boys and the progress the team
made throughout the term was nothing short of remarkable.
During the second half of term, there were several prestigious Rugby Sevens festivals that A.P.S. participated in. We
even fielded two teams at two different events on the same day, when the first team made the quarter finals of the
Packwood Haugh tournament, while the B team became plate runners up at the Rossall Sevens, beating other schools
”A” teams such as St Marys Crosby, Highfield Priory and Birkenhead. The boys played some fantastic sevens rugby at the
Terra Nova sevens, scoring the most points throughout the tournament, and were creditable runners up.
The school first team also beat Bowdon and Willows in the league and cup and are awaiting Park Road in the semi-finals.
As briefly mentioned before, the Hockey Squad enjoyed great success again this year.
We look forward to better fortunes with the weather after the holidays when we will focus more on our
summer sports programme.
That all important team talk!
