We were very lucky to have been visited by Captain
Saint-John-Smythe, a veteran of the Crimean War
who survived the “Charge of The Light Brigade”.
He came and talked to the boys about his wounds
and experiences of the battle, using figurative
language to help portray his ordeal.
(Below) Boys ready with their questions.
(Below) The boys had lots of questions for our
guest. They kept him going for an hour and
some fantastic letters from the battlefield, imagining
they were members of “The Light Brigade”.
We would like to thank Mr Marks who came into
school to talk to the boys about Judaism.
(Left) Mr Marks with Joe, James, Matthew and Josh.
We would also like to thank Mr Sabzwari (Below)
who came into school to discuss Islam with the
boys. (With Mr Sabzwari are Edward, Joe, Oliver
and Elliot). If any parents or relatives with a
knowledge or expertise in a topic we are studying
would like to come and talk to the boys we would
be delighted . Please let us know.
As part of our Islam topic in RE we were visited by
Mrs Saima Alvi (Below with Sebastian) from the
British Muslim Heritage Centre. With her colleagues
they taught the boys about Islam. They discussed the
Qur’an, the history of Islam and boys worked in
groups to make a Mosque. The boys had a fantastic
time and learned so much. It culminated with some
of the boys performing a story with a moral at the
end of it. (Below Right, Matthew, Harry, Jacob,
Chems, Jonathan, Faz, Oliver and Charlie.)
Over this year the boys have been taking part in a
Times Table Olympic Challenge. The aim is to an-
swer 100 questions in three minutes. All the boys on
the left are our Olympic Champions. All of them
have completed the task. Well done.
We hope you all have a relaxing Easter holidays and
come back to school ready for the challenges of the
Summer term.
