China and Japan
The whole school music project for this year has been looking at the music from China and Japan. Every class
has been busy finding out information on the countries and Mr Pearson has once again been overwhelmed by
the quantity of knowledge that has been discovered. Well done boys!
One of the highlights for the boys has been the Chinese Dancing. The sight of all the boys practising their simultaneous moves
is inspiring. The Junior boys have played many Chinese and Japanese pieces, while the Infants have performed a Chinese play
with a moral. We hope you all enjoyed watching the boys at the end of term Music Concerts – and joining in the dancing !
We have had a Dragon competition !
As this project was studied during the Chinese Year of the Dragon, all the boys from Pre-School through to Year
6 have drawn a dragon. All the dragons were displayed in the Marlborough Road Hall during the Music Concerts.
The Altrincham Music Festival took place in March with all music groups performing. The school joined with Bowdon Prep and
Loreto Prep in the Festival’s evening concert, with our percussion groups, recorder group and Senior Choir all giving truly
memorable performances. The boys were a real credit to the school.
Music Exams were held at the school just before half-term with an astonishing 42 entries, a record for the
school! The results were amazing – over 90% merits or distinction! Mr Pearson would like to thank the tireless
work of our peripatetic teachers, Miss Sheldon, Mr King, Mr Price, Miss Goss and Mr Crowther. They add so
much to the success of music at APS.
Finally we have started a new music group at APS ! Miss Goss, our singing teacher, has begun a Chamber Choir made up of
boys from Year 1 to Year 6. This is an exciting new venture and they have already given their first performance
.
