Year 6
Bikeability
We enjoyed out Bikeability training earlier this term! We were trained
on road and cycle safety, firstly in the school grounds then on the roads
around Bowdon.
Programming at Barclays
Year 6 spent the day at Barclays Technology Centre Radbroke to en-
hance their ICT skills and increase financial awareness.
The morning session, the Robotics session, was run by the Barclays
Technology Team, in which the boys worked in pairs to program at
robot. The small Mars Rover / Wall-E look-a-like was programmed
from a laptop, using Arduino, to do all sort of things, including ballet
dancing! The robots provided an excellent means to see how pro-
grams work with simple sequential steps.
We were fortunate to have a tour of the site which included a visit to
Barclays Command Centre, a very hi-tech room which flashes and
changes colours when there are any technology emergencies within
Barclays.
The afternoon saw us being ‘Dragons’! The ‘Dragons Den’ workshop
linked us live via webcams to Barclays offices in London, New York
and Noida (India) to allow us to think about investment. Each team
from across the globe made a pitch to us, and we had to decide
which financial product to invest in.
Our final session with the Barclays Finance Team was a Money Man-
agement workshop in which we looked at our spending habits, and
how to prioritise between our needs and wants. Our present habits
and attitudes towards money will shape our futures.
