FROM THE HEAD MASTER
I expect that I am not alone in having de-
rived considerable pride from the way that
APS has developed and extended its
provision and reach in recent years. Most
visibly this is seen in the outstanding
academic results (not just in year 6 –
though please look at year 6’s vignette of
this Newsletter) across the school where we
continue to outperform overall nationally
and locally both the state and independent
sector. Our extraordinary achievements both
athletically and aesthetically reinforce the
perception and it remains my greatest
pleasure to witness the boy involvement and
engagement in all the richness of school life; they all wish to be in . To
listen to the accolade by year 3 parents of ‘truly you put the boys
through their paces when they hit the junior section so why would you
ever think of going anywhere else’ is most warming.
However, there is no sense of smugness for we continue relentlessly to
move ever forward. This is epitomised by our securing the Bowdon
Cricket, Hockey and Squash club facilities and Bank Place with the
juxtaposed Bell Field recreation land. The real estate that we now have
command of gives us first class facilities to support outstanding teaching
quality.
The latest acquisition will allow us, metaphorically, to loosen our belts so
finding more breathing space in which to address initiatives we have
long harboured to implement. We are embracing exciting times and there are many strategic objectives that potentially
can be undertaken. The Governors are wisely keeping their options open whilst the refurbishment of the building takes
place. Nonetheless, one decision has been taken; as our first step the school intends to place our first-rate EYFS provision
under one roof so making it a more coherent whole.
I am sure you will join with me in applauding the Governors for their courage and resolve in testing times. Continuing to
remain steadfast and true to the vision and desire to sustain and further APS so that we remain the foremost preparatory
school in the north-west and a leader nationally demands commendation.
