YEAR 4
Deck the hall
As part of our work on the Tudors this term we recently took the op-
portunity to visit Bramall Hall (a real Tudor manor house) and see
what it might have been like to prepare for a Christmas feast in Tudor
times.
The boys had worked hard in advance in order to be able to join in
with the singing of some traditional songs and, thanks to the charac-
ters they met, learned a lot about what real Tudor people might have
thought about Christmas.
Mr. Sheppeck made sure he booked the best weather for his class and
left 4A to get wet in the rain!
“Who was that masked man?”
As part of our visit to Bramall Hall the boys were asked to prepare to take part in a traditional Tudor Mummers play,
based on the story of St. George. Some boys were chosen to mime the role of the characters in the story while others
called out their lines. As well as rehearsing, the boys created their own masks to represent the character they were
playing in the play.
Shut that door!
Much of our English work
this half term has centred
on story writing. The boys
have created a piece of
narrative fiction based in a
fantastical world of their
own making.
We discussed how we
would get to our magical
lands and the boys came
up with some great ideas
for doors, doorways and
portals that could take
their characters there.
Here are just a few exam-
ples that we were able to
display in the Marlborough
Road reception area.
