MUSIC
It has been a very productive term in the music department at APS. Boys in
Years 3 and 4 were treated to a spectacular Djembe workshop, given by
‘Drumroots’
Year 3 and 4 boys spent the first half of the
Spring term working on topics about musical improvisation in different styles and
Year 3 boys learned about African musical traditions including ‘A Capella’ call and
response singing. These topics gave the boys a good insight into spontaneous
music making and prepared them well for the ‘Drumroots’ visit which all of the
boys and staff thoroughly enjoyed!
Boys have been busily preparing for their ABRSM exams this term. They have also been learning instrumental parts to
ensure continual progress within their respective ensembles. The boys have shown great dedication in their preparation
and have worked towards their grades with enthusiasm. The end of term APS ensemble concert was a roaring success,
with all music groups contributing in addition to some soloists who performed beautifully.
The Senior Choir have been going from strength to strength and gave a performance of the very challenging ‘Bohemian
Rhapsody’ at the Altrincham Festival. The APS guitar and wind ensembles also performed at the festival with great
success and polish.
The EYFS and Key Stage 1 children have been working tirelessly towards their Spring Celebration which took place in
the last week of term. We were treated to some beautiful spring time poems and songs. Particularly memorable was the
Pre-school performance of ‘Sing a Rainbow’ which also showed the boys playing hand bells. Year 1 children invited us
on their ‘Teddy Bear Picnic’ and the Reception children shared with us the true meaning of giving in their rendition of
‘The Magic Penny’. Boys in Year 2 delighted us with some beautiful readings and songs in addition to some wonderful
solo performances and piano duets.
