In Year 5, we are focusing on the PSHE unit 'Celebrating Differences'. This unit teaches us to accept lives, cultures and interests that are different from our own, whilst embracing the idea that these differences are what makes our world an interesting and unique place to be. As part of this learning, we have been looking at bullying as a consequence of not celebrating differences. We have identified what bullying is, as well as identifying the differences between direct and indirect bullying. We discussed different scenarios and identified what could be done to help the person being bullied, then used a drama technique called 'one in, one out' where we role-played the different consequences that our actions can have when intervening in a bullying situation. Although we had lots of fun, it was a very serious and important opportunity for us to fully explore how bullying can make a person feel, whilst also identifying techniques for putting a stop to it. Well done, Year 5!
